Eifel (European Institute for e-learning) is a not-for-profit European professional association for e-learning practitioners. It currently has members, both individual and corporate in more than12 member states. The Institute’s commitment to working on e-learning initiatives at ‘grass-roots’ level, as can be seen in its regional activities, means that it is particularly concerned with ensuring that SMEs benefit from the possibilities afforded by e-learning to improve the competencies of their personnel and thus the performance of their organisations. This entails a significant focus on work-based and non-formal learning. It’s role in this project will be in terms of evaluation of the methodologies developed and the resources to ensure they meet European and International Quality Standards. Eifel is a founder member of EFQUEL. EIfEL has been championing the use of the ePortfolio over the last two years in carrying out research and benchmarking activities, publishing articles, organising the 1st two international ePortfolio Conferences and in laying the foundations of what has become the European Consortium for the ePortfolio. The Institute is committed to the learning outcomes and competency-based approach to learning seeing the ePortfolio as a vital tool in this domain. The Institute is a Europe-wide organisation and produces an online newsletter presenting key issues in the domains of e-learning and knowledge management. Participation in a number of European projects involves the EIfEL in a range of other valorisation activities including online seminars, conferences and publications. It will bring its experience of quality standards in e-learning to the evaluation of this project.
