DGB Bildungswerk acts as the national training institute of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB). Its main activities concern labour law, health and safety, European work councils, social and cultural competence and IT-Training with some over 65.000 participant days per annum, coming from various sectors. DGB Bildungswerk consists of the headquarters in Düsseldorf as well as 5 educational centres in Germany. Its quality management system is certified (DIN EN ISO 9001) since 1999. The staff comprises 30 permanent teaching staff, some 250 external lecturers and 180 further employees (administration, kitchen and room service staff) with an annual turnover of 17 million Euro. The range of courses include a theme-oriented standard curriculum at the five educational centres, as well as a special programme catering to local trade union requirements, which are offered as events, workshops and seminars. Furthermore it provides educational courses, education services and education management. On the basis of requirements profiles and problem analyses and the identification of education deficits in co-operation with academic institutions and other adult education organisations, DGB Bildungswerk offers educational consultation (staff development, training). The practical approach permits differentiated, systematically integrated educational courses, and places great emphasis on successful transfer into company and trade union practice, even at the planning stage. DGB Bildungswerk manages projects in the field of EU Enlargement, migration, labour health, sustainability, sustainable development, and workers participation. The “Migration and Qualification“ department works within the educational institution of the Federation of German Works Committees. It offers information and organizes seminars and conferences for multipliers - especially for representatives of works committees and for multipliers coming from the hospitality and the food and drink sector - in the field of migration politics fighting for the equality of opportunity of migrants.
The company organises events, seminars and publications concerning migration, integration, participation, anti-racism, anti-discrimination, German and European migration law and other topics concerning migration politics. DGB Bildungswerk cooperate with welfare organizations, migrant organizations, churches and other governmental and non governmental organizations. Its role in this project is to represent and liaise with end-users such as migrant workers through its current contacts. This will be a key part of the valorisation process. Furthermore DGB Bildungswerk has experience of European training, particularly with regards to qualification deficits and the need for inter-cultural competence for works councils. This experience will be important in terms of the validation processes and informing the EQF work within the project. It also has experience of developing e-learning materials and of providing electronic workspaces for discussions. This type of activity will contribute to the valorisation activities.
